Startup.com
In the documentary
startup.com, the class viewed an example of one company’s journey to success
during the dot com rise and fall. Three exceptional Harvard graduates came
together to make a profitable idea come to life. This documentary was a great
example of the realistic events that occur with a start-up company on the web
during this time. Kaleil, Tom, and a third founder (who got out earlier and
made the most physical money) went into starting the company with the goal to
make a great idea which will help people and solve problems. Like most start up
company’s you need an idea and people to push this idea into making it a
reality, they had the means and the funds to create something amazing.
This documentary challenged my thinking in the way that to
be successful and make an idea reality, it takes a lot of expensive risks and
strategic planning. I also learned that timing is everything in life and if you
don’t hurry up and take the chance when it presents itself to you then you miss
out. I also learned that you can’t just expect opportunity to come your way,
you must go out and look for it and be motivated enough to be able to handle the
pressures that come with perseverance. With hard work comes the responsibility
to be consistent and dedicated in the goal.
Kaleil’s an example of a person that got too greedy and inconsistent
with the morals he began with. From him, I learned that you must be honest with
yourself and your peers, because the truth always comes out in the end and
everyone gets what they deserve. There is a difference in the end goal when you go about
things with integrity and honesty or if you go in with greed and a dishonest
mindset.
